Levi's Gran Fondo
Some say this race is harder than any of the classics in Europe. While that is a very bold statement, there is only one way to find out. Multiple levels and courses await this early season adventure in the hills northwest of Santa Rosa, CA. Unless a major fitness binge happens early in the year, we will be planning on the Gran route- it’s only 117 miles with 10,000’ climbing. Piece o’ cake. If you need more, the Growler route is 138 miles and 13,500’, better pack the big girl panties for this one.
Ruby Roubaix: Gravel fondo
Ever heard of the Ruby mountains outside of Elko Nevada? We hadn’t either until last spring. Coming back from the BWR, we took a detour and ended up in the Great Basin, the largest catchment basin in America. Elko might not be coolest place ever, but the mountains around it are, and they just do happen to have a bike race there. Is it a gravel race? Is it a fondo? About half and half it appears so bike and tire choice are going to mighty important. 120 miles seems reasonable to circumnavigate a mountain range and June should be just getting the good legs season so let’s go.
Mammoth Tuff
There has been lots of hubbub lately about what “gravel” and “racing “ really mean. What started as a American tradition in the manner of mountain biking and bourbon, Gravel has now been fully embraced by our neighbors across the pond. And if the Americans can invent something, the Euros can take it to another level. So let’s go find out what the first UCI sanctioned gravel race is all about. Each time we go through Bishop we get more enthused about going back. While Mammoth Lakes is definitely not Bishop, it’s close enough that we can overlook that small detail. Keep in mind the UCI gravel races are shorter and faster than the Yank version so expect 90 miles of full gas romping through the semi arid terrain that makes this part of the country unique. But of course there are still big mountains to contend with, and fast Belgies. Registration opens February 10.
SBT GRVL- the best race in Colorado

Gravel Worlds, the real American one
So you want to be a world champion eh? Perhaps the best part of gravel racing is that anyone can line up at the start line with their heroes and throw down for 150 miles. Sound crazy? Ain’t nothin’ to it but to do it. It starts and ends at a brewery so how bad can it be? Wanna join the crazy train? Registration is still open- https://www.gravel-worlds.com
Second Saturday ride- SBTGRVL prep
Here is the perfect tuneup ride for SBTGRVL- it’s 95 miles, it’s got lots of climbing broken up into 4 sections. Views forever, all kinds of road surfaces and an opportunity to pubs limits. Ride starts from the clubhouse at 8am, EL Jebel hill to Cottonwood pass, turn right in Gypsum and climb Gypsum creek road to Sylvan Lake, turn right and go over Muddy pass on the Eagle-Thomasville road, right again once you hit the Frying Pan road and one final climb to the top of Ruedi before descending all the way back to Basalt. Celebrate hard afterwards.

Sunday Morning Group ride training
You are welcome to take this as seriously or as fun as you would like. Each Sunday morning, we gather to help each other grow as cyclists and humans. Build base for long events, improve skills like drafting and pack riding, add your strengths to make the whole better. It’s not a no drop ride, but it’s not a coffee shop cruise either. Your fitness doesn’t need to be tip top, but your attitude must be awesome. Roll out around 8:30.

Second Saturday ride- discovering the back roads from Basalt to Silt
This is the piece that will unlock a lot of future rides. I'll be starting from Basalt but feel free to jump in from wherever you'd like. The climb up to Sunlight and beyond will be the day's major obstacle, following the maps that lead out to Divide creek side will be the mental challenge and the miners claim will be your reward. Probably best done on a gravel bike but a road bike could do as well as a lightweight full suspension. Plan on Misti and Louie being our support crew, along in the Crosstrek if need be. After ride refreshments will be at the Miner’s Claim
