Group Ride training

  • Basalt High School 600 Southside Drive Basalt, CO, 81621 United States (map)

Sunday Morning Group Training Rides, start April 23, 10am.
This is for anyone looking for group road and gravel rides, a chance to get together to practice riding in close quarters.
To be clear, you are not expected to be experienced at group riding before you show up- this is a chance to learn and develop your abilities. While it does help to have experienced riders along to share their skills and advice, everyone is expected to have a decent level of competence riding a bike to keep yourself and others safe.
Drafting, rotating, eating and drinking, communicating, hand signals are all things that will be covered in the beginning to make sure all riders are on the same page. Group sizes will be kept small for beginner riders and grow larger with experience, ideally between 3-12 riders per group.
This is not an opportunity to get together to try to tear each others legs off. But as we gain a good level of trust, there will be chances to practice attacking, bridging, chasing and teamwork. The goal is be comfortable at increasing speeds while staying within 12" of each other. It will take a while for this to happen, 2-4 sessions for new people to really start to get it and 2-4 sessions for experienced people to trust everyone else. We will start slow and simple, progressing as we need.
These skills pay off big time if you are signed up for a gravel event this summer or the Wednesday night race series from ACC. High school racers to crit racers to triathletes (no tt bikes in the beginning please), anyone and everyone is welcome. Bring the fastest bike you have, or challenge yourself as a stronger rider to do it on a slower bike.
Make sense? Please ask questions, send the word out and bring a friend/ sig O or someone who is new to the sport.
10am, April 23 at the Basalt High School? My studio is just down the street (Beespoke Cycling) if you want to come by earlier to watch the end of Liege- Bastogne-Liege. I thought we could warm-up ride up the trail and use Two Rivers rd at the old snowmass bridge for the first session.
Absolutely share any thoughts. Also possible to add other days to this, speak up. This will be a fun and supportive group, pushing each other while laughing along the way.
Cheers
