About Beespoke

Let’s talk bikes, any time, for any reason. What to buy, where to ride, how to do it better and make it feel phenomenal. No question is too small or project too big. Going faster is only a small piece of being a cyclist. Feeling the confidence to say “yes” to any ride is true independence.

Cycling is as much an art form as it is a sport; your expression of it is as important as our understanding of what it means to do it properly. There absolutely is a cause-and-effect relationship in cycling; we will work in tandem with your experiences to find the source of limitations, all in an effort to build a better you. This focus on you has additional holistic benefits, most notably a healthier life off the bike as well.

I offer 39 years of cycling and 26 years of teaching for your use and benefit. During that time I have experimented in all kinds of cycling endeavors and figured out what works best for me. I have spent most of my life refining my skills to allow me to race mountain bikes through the Dolomites, tour the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland, and hold my own during the group road rides of Mallorcan training camps. The most important universal truth I have learned from cycling is that the answers are often counterintuitive to the questions. My years of teaching skiing have honed my movement analysis abilities and taught me that building trust is the surest way to help others reach their goals. A Roaring Fork Resident for the last 16 years, I know the roads and trails up and down our fantastical Valley. If you are new to the Valley or new to cycling, I would be honored to show you all corners, point out the historical landmarks, and stop at the finest watering holes.

Let’s collaborate together to create the perfect ride no matter if it is on a road, mountain, gravel, time trial, stationary, or e-bike. You are always welcome in my studio, or I can come to you if that is more convenient.

The Beespoke Story: why the extra “e”?

A funny thing happened on the way to buying the property that houses Beespoke Cycling. Of course, I decided to ride my bike to drop off the earnest money committing me to the purchase and a new future. First, I had to stop by a friend’s house to leave a check for my nephew’s new bike. My friend lives at the top of a rather steep hill, with a gravel driveway. I left with much on my mind and rolled off down the bouncy dirt hill, forgetting to change my gears. Before I made it halfway down, the derailleur had bounced into my fabulously expensive carbon wheels and broken three spokes. Bummer. I rerouted back to the house, switched bikes, rode down the hill and to the bike path. Two miles into the 12 to the Title Office I was stung by a bee- not a wasp, a bee- just below the hem of my shorts on my right leg.

This was serious: two universal signals that buying this property was suspect. One is an accident, two is a sign. I diligently kept an eye out for a third sign while debating whether these two incidents signified one way or the other. After much deliberation and self-reflection, I needed to stop by the property before delivering the check, one final assessment, and hopefully the third sign.

As I rolled slowly past the building, like the clearing of clouds after a storm, the image and concept of the dream I have had for 20 years gave itself a name and Beespoke Cycling burst forth.
