Bike Fitting
There are a myriad of reasons to have a bike properly fit the rider, but the simple answer is that when the bike fits the rider, the riding is significantly improved. The better the fit, the more comfortable the position for longer periods of time, the faster and more efficiently the rider can travel, regardless of whether they are commuting, exercising, touring or racing. Elimination of pain/numbness, desire to go faster, and pushing past mileage goals are common reasons to have a bike fit. Listening to each rider, and their individual concerns is the first step in the process before the bike even goes into the stand.
Beginning with the feet, alignment is the foundation for efficient, comfortable, and powerful riding. Proper saddle adjustment allows the legs to turn the cranks smoothly and places the hips in an ideal position for maximum power output or superb spinal support depending upon your desires and objectives. Finding the right height for the handlebars allows the arms room to reach the controls while removing tension from the shoulders and neck. Finally, the controls (shifters and brakes) need to be a natural extension of the rider’s hands.
